It's supposed to be entry level but so far it's turned out first class footage for everything. Of course, I do know how to shoot.but it will work for anybody.and don't let the gripes about the menu discourage you. It's a simple menu and easy to use. I use a battery powered sound board to mix sound before I send it to the cam.but this AG 20 records sound better than any other I've ever used.
This is my very first camcorder. My concerns were to make sure I got good sound and good low-light results. I actually researched and bought a Canon GL2 two years ago for my elementary schools newscast. This is quite a bit bulkier, but was significantly less expensive. The low-light results are there and with the external mic I picked up it satisfies my other concern. I am very pleased with the product for the price.
This camera with three ccd lack of brilliants color and the low ligth performance is too bad that i decided to sell it and buy and HV20 or HV30, controls are hard to use, the AG-DVC7 is a better model than this, panasonic went too backwards with this cameral, if u plan to buy a camera, get the sony hdr1000 o the canon GL2.
This camcorder never ceases to amaze me. I also found that the Audio-Techniqa shotgun mic is very helpful too in nature settings. I use this camcorder extensively in such harsh conditions as a minus 15 degrees on the shores of Lake Superior to Minnesota's Serengeti summer temps which can hit over 90 degrees (in the shade).
I don't need XLR input as I run everything through a small studio mixer straight into the 3.5mm input. For the price I paid, and all things considered, the DVC-20 is a work horse. It is relatively easy to use right out of the box, and the menu system does take some time to get familiar with (which in and of itself is not a complaint).
I have not been disappointed. I wish I could adapt the camcorder to use 6x6 filters though (not that I am pitching Colkin filters). But, I do use 43mm glass filters which is fine (mostly as warming filter and a polarizing).I produce outdoor videos for the infirmed people in our nursing homes who cannot get out through no fault of their own.
I do recommend getting the longer lasting battery though - the two that come with the camcorder should be used for backup only due to limited usage.
This is the first pro video camcorder that I have owned. I would give it thumbs up. Before I was doing still photograph.I like the camcorder a lot as a matter of fact I use it right out of the box sight unseen and had no problem what so ever. Was the best decesion I made. I had read a lot about it in the reviews before it was purchased. I shoot freelance for the local news stations.
